Today’s Reading: Psalm 119:169-176

“O Lord, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised.  Listen to my prayer; rescue me as you promised.  Let praise flow from my lips, for you have taught me your decrees.  Let my tongue sing about your word, for all your commands are right.  Give me a helping hand, for I have chosen to follow your commandments.  O Lord, I have longed for your rescue, and your instructions are my delight.  Let me live so I can praise you, and may your regulations help me.  I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands.” [New Living Translation]

There is a song that I heard as a child, “Oh To Be Kept By Jesus”.  Here are the lyrics.
Oh, to be Kept for Jesus!
Kept, by the power of God;
Kept from the world unspotted,
Treading where Jesus trod.

Refrain
Oh, to be Kept for Jesus!
Lord, at Thy feet I fall;
I would be nothing, nothing, nothing;
Thou shall be all in all.

As the psalmist concludes, he cries out to God declaring his trust.  He is trusting God to keep His promises.  His resolve is to praise God, sing about God’s Word, and live so that others will praise God.  He is clear that the Word of God is his lifeline.  He loves the Word.  He is dependent upon God. He recognizes that even with devotion there is the potential to be distracted.  So during those times, his only request is that God would seek him like a lost sheep.  I pray that each of us today will cherish God’s keeping power.  Cling to His Word and trust His work.

Spiritual Nugget:  God is a keeper.
